The Shed @ Collingham
A chat with Dez Williams, from The Shed @ Collingham.
The Men in Shed’s concept started in Australia, born out of a need to increase the social opportunities for older men. The Sheds provide an enjoyable way to stay socially integrated in local communities, stay active and learn or pass on skills.
Collingham Men in Sheds started around 10 years ago with the generosity of Jerome Wright allowing us to use part of his building in Gusto Construction’s yard, and as time went on, we borrowed more space and never gave it back.
With this help we have been able to grow to The Shed to where we are today. Again, with the help and generosity of Gusto Homes, we now have a purpose built home just behind Gusto House. We have now changed our name to The Shed @ Collingham as we have broadened our outlook to include women and people of all ages too.
We now run a number of courses, with wood turning being our most popular course which runs for 5 weeks. Please come and visit any time, we would love to show you our fantastic facilities and what we are doing here at The Shed – it’s a great place to spend some time and get creative.
We were also the kind recipients of a Gusto Community Fund donation to further support our mission. We would like to thank all members of Gusto that have helped to make The Shed a success.
